The Atlanta Area Suzuki Piano Association (AASPA) will present the Seventeenth Graduation Concert at Spivey Hall on Saturday, June 18, 2005. The Concert will feature two students performing Mozart Concerto #20 in D minor with members of Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra under the Direction of Dr. Marilyn Seelman. Performing the Mozart Concerto are level ten graduates Bria Long, 18, and Zak Beard, 18. Both are students of Leah Brammer.

In addition to the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, the concert features children ages 6 through 18 performing piano solos including works by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and Chopin. All students have developed ability to perform on the piano by studying the Suzuki Method and have not been specially chosen.

The AASPA graduation program is adapted from a model used by the Talent Education Institute in Matsumoto, Japan. The program is open to all students whose teachers are members of AASPA. It rewards students in a special and meaningful way for their progress, and gives them clear and specific goals to focus on for ten progressive levels. Evaluation for each level is based on a videotaped audition of specific pieces from the Suzuki Repertoire.

The Atlanta Area Suzuki Piano Association was founded in 1992 to nurture and develop musical ability in children through the Suzuki Method of Education. Its projects include educational workshop for teachers and students and the semi-annual Graduation Concerts at Spivey Hall.
